Creative Character Design

Character Reaching Up

A typical art class often has to cover a wide range of topics to appeal to a large classroom of artists, which can frequently leave some budding artists feeling as though their needs are not being met. Especially if their skill level differs from the class average.

Aided by my experience as a working tabletop game artist, my focus is teaching prospective students character design and illustration with a focus on styles from popular media (games, animation, comics, etc.)

Let's make sure I'm the right fit for you. We can arrange a time to meet and discuss expectations. For Online lessons, this will be over Zoom. For In-person lessons, this can be at a location of your choosing. The goal of this first meeting is for me to assess the skills of the prospective student and figure out which lessons would serve their needs best. Afterward, I devise and email a lesson plan.

Whether or not someone intends to pursue art professionally, learning to draw opens a treasure trove of benefits! Developing an idea into a visual representation teaches invaluable skills such as research, problem-solving, time management, project planning, how to critique ourselves and perhaps, most importantly, how to make mistakes and grow.

Drawing can be tough and takes practice. But through our perseverance at any stage of life, we learn that it's ok to be challenged. We learn that trying new things, not doing them perfectly and trying again is all a part of growth.
